Event Log

Default Description:

Enables event log messages issued by Windows-based programs and components to be viewed in Event Viewer. This service cannot be stopped.

Additional Information:

Always helpful to check out the Event Log to see what problems with applications are popping up that is "hidden" from the normal user. To see quickly what, if anything has resulted in your adjustments, you may consider clearing the Event Log. Windows Management Instrumentation also requires Event Log Service to be running. With Service Pack 2 or 3, you can no longer disable Event Log using services.msc.

Take note: Manual updates via Windows Update Version 6 web site still requires Automatic Updates, Cryptographic Services, Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and Event Log to be running. Place all three, plus Automatic Updates, in automatic if you do not wish to update manually. In addition, I recommend that you change the default time of 3AM, for the automatic checking of updates, to a time when the system is "normally" on.
