How are these games rated?

The categories I have for rating games are as follows: Category (total points available) - Description.

  • Overall Game Play (10) - How do I like the game? Was it fun? Did I sit down for 15 minutes and get up 3 hours later because I HAD to go urinate? This is the deciding factor in determining the results in this category. Was it worth it.
  • Single Player (10) - How does Single Player action work? Well implemented? Practical? etc.
  • Multiplayer (10) - Any Multiplayer? LAN? Internet? Dedicated Server? "Pay-Per-Month?"
  • Sound (10) - Scoring based on in game sound quality and function.
  • Music (10) - CD? MP3? Different? Did I leave it on or turn it off? Does it go with the game? (Techno does NOT go with Barbie does Cooking).
  • Graphics (10) - 3D? Tile based? Multiple options for varied systems and power ratings? Different resolutions?
  • Innovation (10) - Is this the same old drab or totally new?
  • Replay Value (10) - Do I ever put the CD back in the drive?
  • Technical (10) - How long did it take to crash? Any difficulties? Patched on Day One?
  • Bonus Points (20) - Outstanding in the above categories will warrant additional points tallied here. This will also make up for a game with outstanding graphics but no Multiplayer, etc...

What this all means

100 - 110 = Absolutely without a doubt perfect. Only the VERY best games will ever be placed here.

80 - 100 = Great Game! Most high quality games worth the price of admission will be placed here.

60 - 80 = Average game. Worthy of full price could be debated and shelf life will be slim, but a good time killer, none-the-less.

40 - 60 = A game that needs a lot of polish, and could be picked up for a lower price, but not full retail.

20 - 40 = Don't waste your money, even if in the bargain bin in 2 weeks.

0 - 20 = If there is a game here, I seriously doubt I will still have it. I have only taken back one game in my computer career. A game listed here would make number 2.

Some categories will meld together, for example, if the controlling interface is poorly implemented, the "Game Play and technical" values will both suffer, possible deductions from "replay value" also if it is severe enough.
